BEECHWORTH enjoyed a storming return to two day cricket on Saturday, dismantling City Colts to secure first innings points on the first day of the clash.

City Colts elected to bat at their home pitch of the Barr Reserve and were in trouble early, falling to 4/27 after Tyler Nanson (3), Josh Nanson (7), Tyler Schulze (4) and Mitch Giggins (1) all failed to reach double figures.

Club stalwart Kent Braden tried his best to get his side back on track with 13 off 38 balls but fell to Wanderers' Campbell Fendyk.

Noah Crispin (11), Justin Solimo (12) and Matt Lister (12) were the only other City Colts' players to get past 10 as the home side was rolled for 69.

It was Beechworth's Tim Cogger who starred with the ball, snagging a stunning 5/13 off 8.2 overs, while Fendyk took 2/14.

The Colts got off to a flier with ball in hand, with Braden dismissing promising Beechworth up and comer Clancy Ellett for a duck to have them 1/1.

Kayde Surrey was the next to go for 12 when Braden sent the bails flying, however, that would be the final wicket taken before Beechworth would chase the total down.

Fendyk (26) and Brenton Surrey (46 not out) would combine for 46 runs to chase City Colts' 69 down with eight wickets in hand.

The Wanderers finished the day up on 5/92 going into day two of the already won clash.

In other matches, Benalla was bowled out for 111 against Delatite; Yarrawonga Mulwala made 197 against Ovens Valley United with the Tigers then finishing the day at 1/14; and Rovers United Bruck were dismissed by Wangaratta Magpies for 95 with the 'Pies now at 3/29 going into day two.
