INDIGO Shire residents and business owners are invited to attend a free community information session about the pending World Heritage Listing of the Victorian Goldfields.

The session will be held on Wednesday, November 13 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at the Beechworth Town Hall.

The information session will provide an overview of the World Heritage Listing bid process and what it could mean for the Indigo Shire region.

Attendees will hear from representatives of the Victorian Goldfields bid team, as well as Susannah Doyle, Manager of Tourism at Indigo Shire Council.

"We encourage everyone who lives and works in Indigo Shire to attend this information session," Ms Doyle said.

"World Heritage Listing for the Victorian Goldfields could bring significant benefits to our region.

“It would substantially raise awareness and interest in the heritage we are so proud of.

“The session will provide you with information on the progress and timelines as well as potential for Indigo.

“It will be important for us all to understand how to prepare for World Heritage status and the opportunities this might bring.”

World Heritage status for the Victorian Goldfields would recognise the region's outstanding universal value and unique cultural heritage.

The goldfields bid encompasses a range of shires across central Victoria involved in the Victorian Goldrush from 1849 to 1900, with the mining centres of Bendigo and Ballarat.

The listing could boost tourism, attract investment, and elevate the profile of Indigo Shire on a national and global scale.

The free event is open to the public, but registration is required due to capacity limitations. Light refreshments will be provided.
