COMPLEX plans to repair two damaged culverts along Beechworth-Wodonga Road are in the process of being finalised, following an extensive process which has involved consultation with Heritage Victoria.
A Bailey Bridge has been in place over Rising Sun Creek since late-July, with one lane of traffic open with traffic lights at either end a 20kph speed limit in place, following damage to the culvert sustained in flooding events earlier this year.
A second culvert east of Wooragee has been subject to a 20-tonne load limit during the same timeframe, with oversized vehicles detouring to Wodonga via Chiltern.
Department of Transport and Planning acting regional director (Hume), Emma Bamford, said the Bailey Bridge would remain in place until works are fully completed, with the section east of Wooragee to be repaired first.
Both of the damaged culverts are of significant age, and considered historically significant within Indigo Shire.
Heritage Victoria has been consulting on the repair process alongside the Department of Transport.
“We’re in the process of finalising plans with our contractor for repair works to the two damaged culverts on Beechworth-Wodonga Road,” Ms Bamford said.
“Until these works are complete, the Bailey Bridge will remain in place over Rising Sun Creek, allowing vehicles to continue using the road.”
