BEECHWORTH Montessori School’s intake kicked off last week with an exciting start for its foundation students in the cycle 1 program.
With its program run differently to other schools, most children in the program are familiar with their classroom having undertaken their kinder years in the same room.
Assistant principal (Early Years) and cycle 1 room director Tameeka Thommers said it is not like going from kinder to a new school.
“It's not the same sort of transition that children have when they go from a kindergarten to a school,” she said.
“The big transition point for us is when they move from cycle 1 to cycle 2 into the primary school."
Ms Thommers said foundation students returned to school with an understanding they would be undertaking different lessons and work.
Cycle 1 students include three and four-year-old kinder children as well as the five-year-old prep students.
Ms Thommers said the foundation students are split between two cycle 1 class rooms with the kinder children.
“It's very exciting to start on some activities that they are familiar with as they have been in the classroom for two years,” she said.
She said some students are new to the school with one student Ellie starting her first day on Monday.
