YOUTH members of the 1st Beechworth Scouts group teamed up for dragon boating on Lake Sambell two weeks ago.
As Scouting is about trying new experiences and adventures, Scout leader Rohan France said the group had been eager to try the water sport since the Golden Serpents Dragon Boat Club took to the water.
"Our youth organised a 'come and try' activity where they experienced paddling a dragon boat, and working in a team with their Scouting mates," he said.
Having a great time on the day, Mr France said the Scouts are keen to organise another activity in term four when the weather warms up.
He said dragon boating contributed towards their outdoor adventure paddling badge where more than one session is needed to get one as they are hard to achieve.
Mr France said a key component of scouting is to introduce youth members to the full breadth of community organisations and clubs that make for a healthy society.
"They also have to come up with the concepts, organise the events, then conduct a review to see if it was successful," he said.
"The skills learnt in organising activities and dealing with other community organisations, fosters skills that are readily transferrable to life."
Mr France said Beechworth Scouts loved the activity with the Dragon Boat Club where warm ups and skills development took place while importance of teamwork had been emphasised for paddling.
"It was a fun day, challenging, inclusive, and adventurous," he said.
"We thank the Beechworth Golden Serpents Dragon Boat Club for giving an awesome session to our youth members."
