A SURPRISE find of an Imperial Hairstreak butterfly colony making it the fourth known in Beechworth made an interesting day at the local Landcare group's first working bee for this year in late January.

Beechworth Urban Landcare Sustainability (BULS) member, Nicki Munro, said the butterflies had been discovered in a 'scruffy' little Silver Wattle.

Helping to improve the habitat, BULS volunteers took to overgrown exotic grass with whipper snippers, fixed tree guards, grubbed out woody weed seedlings that had been part of an overall spruce up of the area in the group's ongoing care of the Glades...
