Wet weather can’t stop the golf

AFTER a miserable, wet morning the weather cleared for golf on Sunday afternoon just in time for 13 players to front up for a social hit of the stroke variety.

The scores are getting better with the extra practice over the past few weeks with Dean Howard (17) returning a great score of 63 nett, three shots clear of playing partner Jamie Dolny (17) 66.

Other good scores were Xavier Palamarczuk (2) 68 and Rod Shaw (32) 69 – Palamarczuk was the only person to hit it on a par three in regulation on the third.

We also presented the trophy to Dean Howard for having won the George King Memorial Matchplay championship where he accounted for Jarryd Pritchard 6/4

Great numbers for the first week of twilight golf last Thursday with 27 players taking part in a nine hole round of social Stableford.

The best scores returned came from Darren McCormick and Aaron Haw both with 19, John Sheehan, Henry McCormick and Jarryd Pritchard with 18 and Tyson Carey with 17.

A couple of novelty prizes were handed out in the social hit with Aaron Haw hitting it to within a metre on the third, Jason West knocking it on the seventh and Henry hit the closest chip on the ninth.

After buying about $20 worth of raffle tickets, Tyson Carey won the CC'S Quality Meats voucher in the raffle.

Last Friday saw the Friday Social Twilight Golf commence.

Although at this stage there is no competition, 19 players registered and played in beautiful conditions.

The course is in great condition and the weather was perfect – thanks to Graeme, Coral and George for the work they put into the course.

Coral Ward played a great round with 19 points followed by Glenda Marshall with 16.

Mark Grech had the best score amongst the men with 15 points.

Rod Shaw and newcomer Craig Beverly had the next best scores of 10 points.

The team's event and weekly winners will commence as soon as Golf Australia indicates we are allowed to play competition – in the meantime players can get in plenty of practice.

All new players are welcome and players can hit off from 2.30pm each Friday.

Registration and membership payment can be made at the club on Friday.

Hit off times for golf are as follows:

Wednesday – 8:30pm for 9am.

Thursday Twilight – hit off from 4:30 – 5:15pm.

Friday Twilight – hit off from 2:30 – 4:30pm.

Sunday golf – 12:30pm for 1pm start.
