Bounce back essential for Tigers

OVENS Valley United (OVU) will be looking to reclaim some form tomorrow against Wangaratta Magpies in their A grade match at Whorouly, following a shock upset to Beechworth last week.

The Tigers were bowled out for 105 chasing 198, with 41 runs in extras adding to Beechworth's total.

OVU captain Dylan Bursill said the performance last week simply wasn't up to snuff.

"We bowled and fielded not very well at all, not really to an A grade standard," he said.

"We bowled way too many extras, I think in the end we had 22 wides and no balls and then another 16 leg byes, which meant we were bowling way too straight.

"We were just not on our game, which was disappointing."

Bursill said his side would work to refocus before taking on Wangaratta Magpies this weekend at Whorouly.

"I think we'll have to really look at our bowling and go back to the basics – just play really boring cricket," he said.

"Bowl it outside off, that's what you've just got to do.

"In the end, after losing a lot of wickets early, I thought we did pretty well through our lower order considering they haven't had to bat much since the start of the year.

"We played them (Wangaratta Magpies) at the start of the year, just in a 20/20 – looking at them there, they were a pretty decent outfit.

"We got lucky there, so we'll have to turn it around pretty quickly to get up and about."

The Magpies are looking good, with a win off the back of Pranav Menon's 92 run knock sure to give them plenty of fire coming into the match.

In other WDCA A grade matches tomorrow, Beechworth play host to Delatite on the immaculate turf at Baarmutha Park.

Delatite have struggled a bit so far, sitting just outside the top four on the A grade combined ladder.

It'll be a match for pride at the Benalla Gardens Oval, with a bottom–of–the–table clash between City Colts and Benalla Bushrangers.

Over at the WJ Findlay Oval, home squad Rovers United Bruck take on top dogs Yarrawonga Mulwala.
