A life of variety for Gary

FOURTH generation Beechworthian Garry Jarvis was born in Wangaratta and has lived in Beechworth most of his life.

His great grandfather arrived in Beechworth in 1853 from Sydney.

Garry attended Beechworth primary and high schools which originally shared the same building until high school students moved into a new building and grounds formerly known as Beechworth High School in 1962.

It was his first and last year at the new school back then. He spent 25 years away from the town through his working career.

What have been your jobs?

I'm retired but had varied positions throughout my career which started as a bank clerk with what used to be the State Savings Bank of Victoria in the Beechworth branch. I transferred to head office in Melbourne when 21 years old and stayed with the bank until 1985 when I joined the prison system as the sports officer for Pentridge Gaol.
