Neighbours object

A GROUP of residents who live near a proposed townhouse development at 59 Last Street, Beechworth have lodged an objection to Indigo Shire Council.

Lead signatory on the objection, John Weretka, said members of the group viewed the development as being "inappropriate" for the neighbourhood and the town.

"The proposal would see what was originally half of a residential block being turned into high–density housing on allotments of 200m2 of two–storey townhouses, probably for holiday accommodation," Mr Weretka said.

"This is not in keeping with the general character of the neighbourhood and raises significant infrastructure and amenity problems."

The objection included a number of concerns including the housing density and destruction of neighbourhood character, impact on neighbourhood amenity, stormwater, sewage and water management issues, and their belief the development would make little improvement to...
